Chayse
November 24, 2006

Chayse, Jon & Tammy’s cute little girl. Guess what? Chayse actually loves to share her toys and play with other kids! A very good-natured kid indeed.
The original photo was taken when she was just woke up from her nap, so she was a little unsocial and confused still. 10 minutes later, she was all happy and singing through her collection of songs.

I can see Chayse in this drawing. Babies (or toddlers or young people or whatever) seem to be really difficult. My best guess is that their new skin has not crinkled in the way older folks’ do, so the harsh black pen line gives too much contrast/emphasis to a very subtle detail.

Exactly! It’s best to paint, not draw, little kids, since there is no confusion between wrinkles and baby fat.
As for drawing, I think the trick is to draw as few facial lines as possible but present the cute baby fat at the same time. Tough? You bet!

[...] A happier Chayse, snuggling against Daddy Jon. [...]
