The Berkeley Kite Festival

The annual Berkeley Kite Festival was held this weekend, and, as usual, we participated the festival from home with David’s cool binoculars. Those gigantic colorful kites were amazing! They decorated the bay with their beautiful wavy bodies, adding so many happy hues to the blue background!

Our Hairy Trees
To reveal our long lost view for our guests tomorrow, this morning David and I spent 3 long, exhausting, back-wrecking hours trimming our trees. After filling up both giant green bins (We kinda help ourselves with Gerry & Ingrid’s, since they were on vacation…), the end result was depressing — It was as if we had spent 3 hours for nothing!
Ouch!

Differences of German & Chinese
Yang Liu, a young designer originally from Beijing, designed a series of simple but accurate graphics with her sharp observation for her Ost trifft West exhibition. Now I know that I’m a lot more German I realized!

No More Plums for Year 2007
We really, really should’ve picked all our plums last week. David picked all the rest today, about 10 of them, and all of them already passed their prime. No wonder birds didn’t bother with their nasty tricks with them. How sad!
Again, David promised me that we’ll have a lot more plums next year. Well, David’s promises started to sound like our hiking conversation…
Amanda: Are we there yet?
David: Almost there, just around the corner.
You know what I mean?

No More Apricots for Year 2007
We finished them all in a short week… All 5 dozen of them… Now we have to wait a whole year before we can taste our own apricots again…
David, however, likes to point out that we did very well this year and we’ll do even better next year. Well, I hope that he’s right!

Harry Potter Has Arrived
About 5 minutes ago, our friendly mail lady delivered my copy of Harry Potter and cheerfully announced, “It has arrived!”
Last time I was pacing between our house and the front gate, waiting impatiently for my copy to arrive. I was so mad about the delivery that I almost went to our local bookstore to get my Potter urge out of my system. Finally, an unfamiliar mailman showed up at 5:30pm, with beads of sweat and a tired but friendly smile on his face. He handed me my copy tenderly and said, “Enjoy!” Well, I was shamed of myself for being so pesky… Delivering the long-awaited Harry Potter is no easy task, and I completely forgot about how much hard work had to be put in to have the book in my hands.
Well, this time it’s a completely different story — I actually forgot about my copy would arrive today! Yeah, I did know that the midnight parties were held everywhere in the world, but somehow the fuse popped and I failed to make the connection that I would get my book today. So it was a pleasant surprise when our mail lady showed up.
My own old prediction is that Potter will die at the end, because that’s the only thing to stop having Harry Potter 8. Well, I guess I’ll find out once I finish reading the book!
