Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches
Like Presidents of the United States’s song, Peaches*, “I’m movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat me a lot of peaches,” except replacing peaches with plums. This morning when I went to pick up our newspaper, I found this plum on the left lying on the ground. At first I thought that it was knocked down by birds, but then after close inspection, I ruled out that possibility. See how perfect it was? And the aroma! Totally unlike those big but fragrance-less ones they sold at Safeway.
David and I split our first plum of the year, and it was just delicious! And we still got another 5 dozen on the tree!
* This song is one of my all-time favorites, and the original lyrics:
Peaches
Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches
I’m movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat me a lot of peaches
I’m movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat a lot of peaches
Peaches come from a can, they were put there by a man In a factory downtown
And if I had my little way, I’d eat peaches everyday
Sun soakin’ bulges in the shade
Movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin’ to the country, I’m gonna eat a lot of peaches
I’m movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches
Movin’ to the country, gonna eat a lot of peaches
I took a little nap where the roots all twist
Squished a rotten peach in my fist
And dreamed about you woman
I poked my finger down inside, made a little room for an ant to hide
Nature’s candy in my hand or a can or pie
Yeah, yeah…
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free
Millions of peaches, peaches for me
Millions of peaches, peaches for free…Look out!
[07/08/2007 Update] We have been enjoying 4 or 5 plums a day. If we keep on this speed, we’ll run out of plums in 10 days and we’ll have to wait for a whole new year! Fortunately, plums and cherries grow all over the hills and it’s a lot of fun to take a walk now — we get refueled by those tasty fruits!
