Pan’s Labyrinth

I had been wanting to watch “Pan’s Labyrinth” by Guillermo del Toro for sometime, and tonight we finally did it. What a beautiful movie! Its rich colors reminded me of “le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain” and “la Cité des enfants perdus” by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. But even though the movie has a cute little girl as the protagonist and the story is heavily laced with fantasy, it is incredibly sad. And violent. And cruel. (It was rated R for a good reason.) It’s also a movie making one contemplate the human nature long after it finishes.
I don’t want to spoil the plot for you, but if you must know what happens NOW, check out the Wikipedia. But, really, you should see the movie. It’s worth it, even if you’ll have beautiful nightmares for a while afterwards.
