DVG – Day 56

Time flies! It’s almost 2 months since David planted the vegetable. As you can see, the arugula in the back is out of control! David is thinking about pulling some of them out to plant something else, because we just don’t consume that much.

In front of the crazy arugula is kale. We don’t eat that much kale (yet), since David wants to wait for the leaves to grow bigger & tougher for his crispy kale appetizer. (It’s like dry seaweed but with crinkly texture.) He’s been mixing a few leaves to his pan fried garlic & Swiss chard dish to give it a bit of bitter taste. After several tries, I think that it’s probably best to leave kale out of the dish.

And right in front of the gate is our very happy Swiss chard, which we’ve been enjoying quite a bit and that’s why some of them look rather skinny . Actually not just us; bugs seem to like it the most among all things in the garden, too, unfortunately.

On the left of the Swiss chard is my favorite one in David’s vegetable garden — lettuce! They don’t look all that big, because someone has been busy nibbling at them! I can’t remember how many bowls of salad we’ve had so far, but new leaves just keep on growing back.

For the longest time, we really didn’t know what to do with those beans behind our very happy lettuce… David thought they were just not doing well there and thought about pulling them all out and planted something else. However, even though they did not grow taller or bigger, flowers started blooming and there is a chance that we might have a few beans. So, yeah, David has changed his mind and will leave them there for now.

Well, between our beans are our delicious radish. I pulled out most of them last time, but there are still a few left. David said that it’s about time to plant more radish seeds. Boy, the radish was good!
